Scott Orsini adds two endorsements in St. Pete Council race

Two local elected officials are endorsing Scott Orsini for St. Petersburg City Council.

State Rep. Jennifer Webb and Pinellas County Commissioner Pat Gerard both offered their endorsements for Orsini Wednesday.

“I support Scott because he cares about finding answers to the tough questions we need to deal with at the state and local level,” Webb said. “Scott is committed to protecting our environment, improving our transportation options, and creating more affordable housing. I look forward to working with him on these important issues when he’s elected.”

Orsini, who is a family law attorney, announced he was running for District 1 in January to replace Charlie Gerdes who is term-limited out of office next year. Orsini is the only candidate to file for the seat so far.

Though City Council races are technically non-partisan, Gerdes, Orsini and both of his latest endorsers are all Democrats.

“Scott has the experience, work ethic, and temperament needed to be an effective member of St. Petersburg City Council,” Gerard said. “His family law practice is all about finding common ground, understanding both sides of an issue, and creating solutions that benefit everyone. I have no doubt that Scott will serve the citizens of District 1 well, and I wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy.”

District 1 covers west St. Pete including the Tyrone area, Pasadena, Jungle Terrace and Jungle Prada, among others.
Orsini praised Webb and Gerard for their community service and commitment to working for St. Pete.
Both Mayor Rick Kriseman and Gerdes have endorsed Orsini.

The Primary Election in Orsini’s race is August 27. The General Election is November 5. Qualifying for races begins June 6.

City Council Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 are all on the ballot. Orsini’s district is 1 of two races for open seats. Steve Kornell is leaving District 5 due to term limits. Lisa Wheeler-Bowman has already filed for a second term in District 7. Ed Montanari has not yet filed for re-election in District 3, but he is eligible to run again.
